After months of planning Barcelona’s beloved Sala Apollo once more got a glamorous refit to host the annual Mobile Premier Awards. Taking place during the first day of the Mobile World Congress over 1000 industry insiders and fans attended the Hollywood themed event to watch 16 global apps battle it out for three prestigious awards.
In front of judges from Intel, The Next Web, Runtastic and more the apps were giving three minutes to impress before a quick no-nonsense questioning from the industry figureheads. After a host of impressive pitches three winners were finally chosen. ‘The Big Impact Award’ as voted by Appcircus staff was awarded to Berlin’s Mimi Hearing for its socially conscious application and usability in day-to-day life.
Spain’s own educational Schooltivity app got the ‘Audience Award’ after public voting became so fevered that the event began trending on Twitter’s top ten. But the big award went to Barcelona’s Sharing Academy, confidently claiming the Best App Award after an impassioned pitch on peer-on-peer tutoring and the nature of learning. The reminder of the evening was spent with networking, music and a Marilyn Monroe impersonator!
